A contemporary reinterpretation of Alpine barns, defined by sculpted timber volumes, panoramic views, and minimal interiors connected to nature.
Located in Maranza, a small village in South Tyrol known for its agricultural heritage, Hotel Milla Montis is organized into four staggered volumes, thoughtfully designed to reduce the building’s scale and integrate seamlessly with the surrounding alpine landscape.
The architecture draws inspiration from traditional Alpine barns, reinterpreted with a contemporary approach that blends functionality, aesthetics, and local identity.
The curved timber façade, articulated through an exoskeleton structure, evokes the form of a pitchfork, a symbol of the region’s farming culture, while large windows provide panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, connecting guests visually with the landscape. The design emphasizes natural light and materiality, creating a sense of openness and harmony with the alpine environment.
Inside, the spaces follow a minimal, timeless Alpine style, where ash wood, green loden fabrics, and refined detailing create continuity between architecture and nature. The contrast between the charred exterior timber and the light, warm interior finishes strengthens the building’s material identity and highlights its contemporary reinterpretation of local traditions.
Hotel Milla Montis offers an experience where architecture, landscape, and local culture converge, providing a unique alpine hospitality experience that celebrates the region’s natural beauty and craftsmanship.
