The Fleckalmbahn Ropeway Station project reimagines an abandoned mountain cable car station as a flexible cultural space for public use.
The existing concrete plinth and historic machinery are preserved and integrated as visible, central elements of the new architectural experience, transforming technical heritage into a spatial narrative.
The new volume is shaped by a contemporary interpretation of alpine construction, featuring a dark wood-shingle envelope that resonates with the surrounding landscape while subtly recalling traditional roof forms. Interior spaces are fluid and adaptable, allowing multiple configurations for exhibitions, community gatherings, and cultural events, all organised around the original cable-car mechanisms — now the heart of the project.
The result is a quiet architectural landmark that bridges past and future, honouring the site’s legacy while giving new life and meaning to an existing structure.
